Business consulting in India: prepare a decision-ready brief
Innovexsis Consulting LLP ·
Start with a decision you need to make, not a list of deliverables. A focused brief makes an advisory conversation more useful.

What does a business consultant help you decide?
Business consulting can support decisions about growth, operations, market entry or a transaction. The right scope depends on the problem, the available evidence and who has authority to act. A report is an output; a better decision is the objective.
For example, a company considering India entry needs to compare customer demand, operating costs, delivery capacity and regulatory requirements. These are different questions from improving lead follow-up in an existing business.
Prepare your brief before choosing an adviser
Write a one-page brief that separates confirmed facts from assumptions. Share sensitive information only after agreeing confidentiality and appropriate access.
- Decision: what must be decided, by whom and by when?
- Baseline: current revenue, costs or operating measures relevant to that decision.
- Constraints: available budget, staff capacity and legal or operational dependencies.
- Options: the alternatives, including doing nothing.
- Evidence: what is known, what is missing and who can verify it.
Choose a scope you can evaluate
Agree the questions to answer, evidence sources, exclusions, review points and acceptance criteria. Strategy, implementation and ongoing operations should be distinguished so accountability is clear.
Ask how recommendations will be tested and what happens if assumptions change. Avoid judging success only by presentations or activity counts; connect measures to the business decision.
Turn recommendations into a review cycle
Assign an owner to each action, record the assumption being tested and review results against the baseline. An experiment with a clear stop condition can be more useful than a large untested plan.
